In 1946, Seymour Farber opened his first mattress discounting business in the Uptown section of Pittsburgh, PA and then had locations in Bloomfield and Duquesne. The Duquessne store, then called American Buyers Guild, started as a closed door discount supplier restricted to the 51,000 members of the United Steel Workers of America District 15. In 2000, Seymour moved the business to Homestead and became American Buyers Discount Mattress so he could pass the savings on to the general public. Fueled by his vision to provide quality mattresses and furniture at a discounted price, Seymour worked tirelessly to find the best mattress brands at the absolute best value. He also provided extensive training for his staff so they could learn everything there is to know about their products and help customers find the right bed and furniture based on their unique needs and budget.
Sleep Pittsburgh Is Born
After a long and successful run, in 2008 Seymour passed the reigns to Vince Snyder with whom he had worked closely for more than 20 years. In 2016 American Buyers Discount Mattress became Sleep Pittsburgh. Although the name may have changed, customers can still come to expect the same level of exceptional customer service and unbeatable prices on brand-name mattresses, adjustable beds, and more.
